Welcome to Character Creation! Below, you will find an extensive guide on how to create and care for your picoo.
In the Skytree, picoos of all colors, shapes, and sizes live harmoniously under the protection of the Pockatrice. You* have joined the ranks of the Picoo Pals defense in the Skytree to serve your fellow picoos. Your picoo starts as a rookie, but slowly climbs the ranks as you continue to be active in the server.
*This only applies to your main picoo. All other canon characters living in the Skytree are civilians.First, you need to pick a color. While every picoo is unique and can vary in all kinds of ways, the picoo’s base color is a great starting point to jumpstart your new character. Look below for more information about each color:
🔴 Red - Strength
Red picoos originate from the Isles of Aakra, a series of tropical islands to the south of Pockra. Their ability is strength, meaning that they are physically stout and tough-skinned. Their elemental power is fire, meaning that they can create and manipulate flames and heat to their will. Many red picoos become blacksmiths and craftsmen, as their rocky and intense climate gives them some of the best equipment to work with. They are resilient to heat, so they often live near volcanoes to use their forges, and some of the most extreme red picoos even live inside these volcanoes. The hot springs around the islands bring signs of good luck, and they are often used to traverse the island safely. When not at work, they like to relax and trade with their fellow picoos, and they are more than happy to offer a luxurious stay for a foreign visitor.
🟠 Orange - Agility
Orange picoos originate from Drifter’s Basin, a vast badlands biome to the west of the mainland. Their ability is agility, meaning that they are physically limber and have a very high endurance. Their elemental power is air, meaning that they can manipulate the wind to their will–some of the strongest orange picoos can even control the weather. Orange picoos are fairly solitary and often live on their own or in small groups. They don’t usually stay in one place for long periods of time, since they enjoy traveling and running across their long planes. The settlements found within Drifter’s Basin are few and far between, often hard to spot within the tall reeds they are built in. They also enjoy resting within trees found in the tall grasslands and occasionally build treehouses. Orange picoos aren’t ones to indulge in riches, but they love a challenge and enjoy competing with other picoos.
🟡 Yellow - Communication*
Not much is known about yellow picoos at this time. Currently, there are only two known to exist: Meech, the royal advisor of the Pockatrice, and his son Tweech. Neither have any idea about their color’s history. Their ability is communication, meaning that they can speak to all sorts of creatures and understand all kinds of languages. Their elemental power is light, meaning that they can create and manipulate light and light sources.
🟢 Green - Vitality
Green picoos originate from Sylvania, a large area of moor and marsh in the center of the mainland. Their ability is vitality, meaning that they are in good health and have high spirits. Their elemental power is earth, meaning that their unique connection with the planet allows them to extend the grace of life and health to others. As the most abundant and social of all picoos, they work best in groups and are rarely found on their own in the wild. Green picoos are the most likely to be an all-around talent as opposed to being dedicated to specialized fields like many of the other colors. They like to gather their food more than they like to farm or hunt, and they are often skilled foragers. The only two pockatrices left in existence, both from an ancient lineage of monarchs, are green, hinting to a past of power, respect, and leadership.
🔵 Blue - Charm
Blue picoos originate from Three Fang Falls, a small piece of territory to the south of the mainland identified by its vast waterfalls, rivers, and iconic Crystal Lake. Their ability is charm, meaning that they are inspiring and compelling, often attracting other picoos to their vibe. Their elemental power is water, meaning that they can manipulate water and water-based liquids to their will. Their bodies are specially adapted more than any other species of picoo to live within aquatic environments, including webbed feet and hidden gills to breathe underwater. Blue picoos are quite social and creative, and art and music is deeply ingrained into their culture. Although Three Fang Falls is the origin of the species, many blue picoos live on the edge of Sylvania as well, adapting to the moist land environment as opposed to the waters of the Falls. Legends from the Isles of Aakra also claim that a third adaptation of blue picoos populate the deep sea, living within colorful reefs and grand underwater palaces.
🟣 Purple - Intelligence
Purple picoos originate from the Underglow, a large system of tunnels and caverns found underneath Sylvania, Drifter’s Basin, and the open ocean off the northeast of the mainland. Their ability is intelligence, meaning that their high levels of development are capable of learning magics that other picoos cannot. Their elemental power is aether, meaning that they have the power to imbue objects with magic. Living in almost complete darkness, purple picoos have exceptional night vision and adorn large talons for digging. The caves they live in are filled with large pools of water and streams, illuminated by the bioluminescent fungi and plants within. Purple picoos love to create studies and libraries in their main hubs, and they create telescopes to observe the night sky, inspired by the crystals dotted within the ceiling of their caves. Purple picoos are most likely to indulge in riches, and many go into artistry and jeweling thanks to the abundance of clay and gems in their habitat. Others become librarians, historians, professors, and other forms of educators.
⚪ Fell - Entropy*
The Fell are a subspecies of picoo that reside and most likely originated in the Bloody Crags. Their ability is entropy and their elemental power is darkness, but it has not been studied as to what exactly these things entail. While not every Fell is a dangerous killer, they have a primal instinct to hunt any living creature. It has been observed within Fell in the Picoo Pals that they have the ability to turn other picoos to stone to increase their own power. Few individuals know any more information about the Fell, and those that do refuse to talk about it. It may never be known how this subspecies came into existence.
Both of these options have pros and cons. Consider the differences and decide what would work best for you!
A normal skin is a picoo skin that has the default patterns and is created through the official creator (i.e. the shop). These picoos are able to be modified, which means that any Modifications in the shop can be applied to them, ranging from color modifications to mutations to dootdoot mods to whatever else is available.
Normal skins are recommended for your first picoo, as you can explore the full range of functionality with the character creator.
You get one free character for your first ever picoo, in which you can customize using accessories and modifications. To obtain any subsequent picoos with a normal skin, buy the base "Egg" item from the shop and any modifications you would like to go with it.
A custom skin is a picoo skin that has completely unique patterns and is created by official team artists. These picoos cannot have Modifications applied, as mods are often a given within skins themselves and it can be disrespectful to the original artist to modify their artwork. However, they can still have Accessories applied to them.
To obtain a picoo with a custom skin, you can either (1) purchase a skin from the Custom Skin Shop for an existing picoo, (2) purchase a custom egg for the Egg + Skin bundle (limited availability), or (3) wait for Hatch-Harvest (February) and Hatchday (April) seasons for a free custom egg with unique items included.

Q: Is there a limit to how many picoos I can have?
A: Nope, but you are largely responsible for keeping track of them.
Q: What does "canon" mean? What's the difference between "canon" and "non-canon"?
A: A "canon" picoo refers to any character you officially own within the Picoo Pals universe. Each canon picoo, minus one freebie for your first character, should have one item in your inventory that is some sort of egg--whether it be the base "Egg" item, a custom egg that includes both the egg and its custom skin, or the "Hatchday Egg" item for characters received during Hatchday events.
Canon picoos are strict about how they can look, as one of the main gimmicks of this server is its character creation system. Currently, this system uses the Unbelievaboat economy and shop, but in the future, a fully fleshed-out visual character creator game will be available and will be the determining factor for your "canon" designs (excluding custom skins, which are done by official team artists).
Canon picoos will be used in future games (e.g. videogames, TTRPGs, etc.), in-universe storylines and events, and other content made by the official team. If you just want to create something fun for yourself on your own time, you are not limited by these rules. As a part of the Picoo Pals, you may freely create and share any picoo content as you like--non-canon content just cannot be a part of the official Picoo Pals universe.
Q: Why do some people have numbers in front of their name?
A: The Picoo Pals was originally founded as the Picken Pals within a videogame called Fer.al. Within the game, everyone had anonymous accounts with the usernames picken1, picken2, picken3, etc. When Fer.al shut down and we eventually migrated to becoming our own thing, many of the original members decided to keep their numbers in their nicknames in honor of our origins. You will not have a number if you joined after November 2021.
Q: If I had a picken, how can I convert them into a picoo? / What is "The Machine"?
A: All users with the "Veteran" role have the option to put their picken through "The Machine." This is a "device" that allows you to convert your old picken into a picoo without having to buy a ton of Modifications yourself.
When a Machine Ticket is bought, an artist will be assigned to you to convert your picken OR you can create it yourself, granted you follow the general character creation rules. Additionally, new designs must be the same or otherwise highly derivative of the old picken design, which must be presented. If you want to redesign or reimagine your old picken, you must start from scratch.
This can be done by either:
Granting the user an Egg and all Modifications required at no extra charge,
Granting the user an Egg and a Custom Skin at no extra charge
The first option can be later modified, while the second cannot. It is up to the artist to determine which option is most plausible for the character, and 2021 Hatchday pickens will always be given the second route.
Q: Can I trade/give away my picoos?
A: If your picoo had a unique Custom Skin that was pre-designed by an artist (not made specifically for you), such as a Hatchday skin, you may forfeit the design back to the original artist so they may do what they want with it. If the picoo was either made specifically for you or had a Normal Skin, you may have them removed from your inventory and you can be refunded for what you paid.
Picoos may not be traded for profit or given to a friend (unless they also pay the fees to recreate a Normal-skinned picoo). They are not adoptables or collectibles.
Q: What are picoo mutations?
A: Mutations affect a picoo's physical appearance. Excluding Hybrid, they are completely cosmetic and have no effect other than appearance.
Hybrid: a Rare mutation in which a picoo has half the looks and traits of one color and half of another color. Picoos cannot be hybrids of more than two colors nor can hybrids be combined with any other mutations. Hybrids obtain the traits and powers of both colors, but their abilites are much weaker than a solid-color picoo's.
Albinistic: a Rare mutation in which a picoo's entire skin and feathers are completely white and their eyes are a light pink.
Melanistic: a Rare mutation in which a picoo's entire skin and feathers are completely black.
Skewbald: an Uncommon mutation in which a picoo's skin and feathers are covered in patches of pure white that cover roughly 50% of the body. These patches can vary, but they do not follow specific patterns.
Voibald: an Uncommon mutation in which a picoo's skin and feathers are covered in patches of pure black that cover roughly 50% of the body. These patches can vary, but they do not follow specific patterns.
Piebald: An Epic mutation in which a picoo's skin and feathers are a 50/50 split of pure black and pure white. These patches can vary, but they do not follow specific patterns.
Tricolor: an Epic mutation in which a picoo's skin and feathers are a 33/33/33 split of pure black, pure white, and the base color. While the base color is normal, the patches of white and black do not follow specific patterns.
