Established on June 24th, 2020 by Discord user _xol, the Picoo Pals is an online group hosted on Discord that hosts events and projects centered around its own original species called the "picoo."
Currently, the server is co-owned by Discord users _xol and jaydragoni, with four additional lords (admins) and nine additional council members (mods).
Origins

Originally, the group was called the Picken Pals, centered around a pig-chicken hybrid species called the picken from the former WildWorks MMO Fer.al. During the game's runtime, the Picken Pals created a multitude of alternate accounts, each labeled "picken" with a number at the end; e.g. picken1, picken2, picken3, picken10, etc., all the way up to picken234. The group frequently hosted "raids," where a batch of roughly 10-15 pickens joined a server together and roleplayed with other players. When Fer.al shut down in favor of the failed NFT project Cinder in March 2022, the Picken Pals rebranded into the Picoo Pals, working off of the many fanon deviations from Fer.al's pickens that had already been established within the group.
Without a central game to base itself around, the Picoo Pals decided to create two major gimmicks to give itself a purpose: the shop and the monthly events.
The Shop

The shop is a large database of traits, accessories, pets, and other items that members can use to customize their picoo. Items in the shop can be purchased using corn, a virtual currency earned by being active in the Discord server and participating in events.
Virtual currency in the Picoo Pals is not and will never be something that can be purchased with real-world money.

Monthly Events
Monthly Events
The monthly events are themed events, usually inspired by real-world holidays or seasons, that run for one month (with the exception of the Carnival Season, which runs for two). During these events, the council will usually organize games and/or contests for members to participate in and earn corn, shop items, skins, or other virtual goods. The most popular event, a staple of the Picoo Pals since 2021, is April's Hatchday season, where every member gets a free and unique new character designed by the council team.

January: π Lunar Cycles Day π
The sky returns to normal as the spectacles of the December sky finally calm down. This marks a new cycle for the picoos, leading into another year of fun and shenanigans.
February: π₯ Hatch-Harvest Festival π₯
It's egg-laying season! The picoos are ready to paint their eggs using pigments from the brilliantly-colored fruits of the Skytree, quickening their eggs to the crystal shards gathered within.
March: π Good-Fortune Festival π
Clovers grown during the Good-Fortune Festival are rumored to magically release luck into the air. Picoos try to attract this luck painting themselves the same color as the clovers, and donning lucky charms so that they will experience good fortune throughout the rest of the year. Especially festive picoos like to try their new-found luck in contests and games!
April: π£ Hatchday Festival π£
The eggs from the Hatch-Harvest Festival have hatched! This popular day brings picoos from all over together, helping to raise their new children as one.
May: π May-Day Championships π
It is now late spring, and with the weather warming up, the picoos are eager to get outside! They celebrate this by competing in a variety of contests and competitions for the ultimate bragging rights.
June: π Pride Parade π
Summer is officially here, and the picoos in the Skytree prepare for the Pride Parade! They put on shows and performances for each other and celebrate the anniversary of the Skytree settlement.
July/August: πͺ Carnival Season πͺ
The carnival is back in town! Picoos gather from all over the continent to the Skytree to play games and win prizes. Some even set up shops and stands to sell their products! The most popular attraction by far is the Dunk Tank, where picoos can line up for a chance to dunk the Lords themselves into a tank of water.
September: π Terrasoul Ceremony π
Picoos have a special connection with the planet of Verotha. They honor this connection by taking care of the planet and contributing to a healthy ecosystem.
October: π Haunt-Harvest Festival π
Deep into autumn, when Verotha's three moons are once again in alignment, a shift can be felt in the natural forces of the world. Magic becomes unstable, and the picoos must work together to prevent a dangerous universe known only as "The Betwixt" from seeping into the real world.
November: π¦ Month of Reverence π¦
Nearing the end of fall, picoo families meet up to thank their ancestors for the previous year and ask for their blessing during next year's harvest.
December: βοΈ Winter Eclipse Celebration βοΈ
In this last month of the year, the picoos look up to watch the spectacles of the sky, from the stars shining their brightest of the whole year to the brilliance of the meteor showers that illuminate the night. Legends say that these spectacles are created by Fleetfoot, the celestial picoo who leaves behind these incredible displays as they travel across the night sky. The picoos then gather together and prepare for the 25th of the month, when they observe the Great Winter Eclipse all day. They exchange food and gifts following the blessings of Aril Claus and the jinxes of Krampiks.

Picoo Pals is a closed, invite-only group, and we generally do not accept requests to join. However, since our primary method of recruitment was eradicated (i.e. finding players in Fer.al), we are currently more lenient with our invites.
You must have a Discord account to join, as this is the platform the group is hosted on. If you have a contact who is already an active part of the group, you are welcome to ask them for more information, and the contact is able to submit a request for you to join. If you found out about the group through other means (social media, ArtFight, etc.), you are welcome to send a friend request to picoopals on Discord and ask for more information.
We have a limit of 5 new members a week on a first-come first-serve basis, so that the server does not get overwhelmed with new members and that we have the capability to connect with everyone personally. You may be put on a waitlist if this limit has been reached.
Please also understand that Picoo Pals is more than just the species and world created for itβit is a friend group first and foremost, and is treated as such compared to other Discord servers.
